That’s D.C. Fontana. You can also call it the bad luck of the secretary to Gene Roddenberry. As per the inside reports the secretary was out for several months due to infection acquired after an appendectomy. So meanwhile Fontana filled her place and consequently got to know Roddenberry better. Roddenberry is quite encouraging person and when he came to know about her interest to be a professional writer, he gave her this opportunity.

Fontana had to rewrite the ‘The Side of Paradise’ up to Gene’s and NBC’s satisfaction and as a reward she wound up as a story editor. She shares that it was required to give more weight and more drive to the character of Captain Kirk. After all He can’t just sit there like a dummy.
For now Fontana has left as a story editor, although she contributed stories for the third year including the ‘The Enterprise Incident’. No need to say that it turned every viewer into a fan. Besides this Fontana was unhappy with the creature of the week and monster of the week kind of trends and she was surprised that ‘Voyage to the bottom of the Sea’ could be the terribly successful thing for the show.

Another writer for the third season Ron Moor shares the fact behind success of the show. He says that Roddenberry became more visionary than being a writer, and started serving the idea of utopianism and its future. He wanted to create an example of perfect humanity for future. All the writers bend and work around the limitations and everyone created around the fundamentals built by Gene.
